STAGED - still life painting

Jo Young
29 August 2015 - 23 September 2015

Drawn from different aspects of domestic life, the curious objects in Young's still life paintings speak in quiet conversation and belong to a larger narrative and historical time and place. "I derive inspiration from the art of the Dutch Baroque, Flemish and French 18th Century painters. Like characters in theatre, objects are carefully staged in an intimate space, where drama is created through emphasis highlights, reflections and shadows" (Jo Young, 2015).
